The peregrines are still using the platform on Derby Cathedral, much to the delight of at least a few dedicated web cam watchers who regularly post updates in the comments! It's well-worth checking these out at the bottom of the most recent post as it will give you an idea of what's been happening recently.
To stop spammers, we don't permit comments to be added to any blog post that is more than three months old. So, this post is simply to refresh that timer during the 'quiet season'. Please remember to add topical comments only to the most recently published post.
It's quite normal to see occasional nest scraping activity even in the depths of winter, as one or other of the adult birds reinforces their link to the nesting platform. Feel free to add any observations that you've made whilst watching our webcams to the comments below.

Notice that there appear to be a couple of birds legs, remains of a meal no doubt, with rings attached. I can see two with different colours (yellow and blue). Can anybody provide a background information on what birds these are from and will the rings be collected at some point and returned to the ringers?
Thanks for the new page and that great pic!
Lots of noise, 2 then 1, who left a short while later
Dreadful weather just now, hope our Peregrines have decent cover ...

Just came on after a few weeks and lovely to see one sat at home :)
Yes ...someone at home sitting preening enjoying the view
Finally! Ah I missed them.
Giving its tail feathers a good clean
Giving its wings a good old stretch
Also he (she?) keep opening the mouth wide as if they have something stuck on their throat. I Wonder what’s the true reason.
Flew off a min ago
It’s back!
It’s gone away again.
Female (I think) is back :)
Ones back again
Still there
Looks like ones back to sleeping on the bottom layer again
Someone's home enjoying the view and sunshine
Still there preening
Just flew off
Both have appeared, lots of noise
Yes!!
Missed seeing the pair but here's Mum preening ...

Glad to have seen the peregrines on the webcam today I've missed them most times!
Looks like it's having a nap
Just looked and saw ones back
Computer problem and when I looked again its gone
back again!
So pleased they keep returning shortly after departing!
So good to see Mum again

Love the way she looks at camera ...

Same!
Can just see someone's feet
If its the same one, its been there a long time. Cam 2
Still there!
The male went a short while ago and I've got a feeling this is the female now as it looks bigger???
Is that the one that's still there
Think so
Cam 1 is that hole in the floor, top right, I'm sure I can see the roof below
Someone's come home early busy preening
Definitely a hole 😞
Female (think it was) flew off and male is now there
Still there ..if it's the same one
I see Mum perched on shingle scrape ledge, not much of her head though!
It’s like a peregrine roll.
Very pleased they keep returning home
Just now someone was home for about ten minutes and then flew off (to hunt for breakfast, I presume).
We have an adult on the platform (currently cam2).
Never mind, they flew away as I was sending the comment, lol.
We have an adult present (cam2) since 07:40~ ish.
I’m very late, couldn’t comment earlier but he/she is still there (yay)!
Not been able to check in for couple of days ..nice to see one home
Still on Cam 2, looks like its been there a while if you saw it at around 7.40
Just flew off
Left to hunt I presume!
Both on the platform right now chatting ~
Only one now (cam2).
He(she?) flew off a min ago!
Shame I missed them both
Just arrived on Cam 1, are they eating the stones?
Typical they just moved to the ledge so not such a good view now
Maybe tidying up?
Someone is home, preening.
It’s been a great morning, both there chatting for a few min, now one of them took off.
He flew off now.
Someone at home with the sun on its back
A lot of preening, scratching, sun bathing and napping since around 07:30 ; I’m pleased.
Both there now
They’re both there!
I still can’t tell them apart…
I think it was the female on Cam 1 and the male is still on Cam 2
Both there again, female (I think) on corner of lower part
The partner just landed below the nest platform ~
Mum still perched ... https://youtu.be/TPbYVOWawt8?si=wjHUCN3aqUEkEnlz
Oh I thought that was the male. Just flew off as I was typing!
Just logged on and happy to see one preening on Cam 2
There's one or two virtually every day.
And one still there preening
Away they go
Both there at the moment
Having a big chat then one flew off
I missed it! ugh
Both back again
Yay!
She’s gone elsewhere (probably for the night).
Just logged on, theres one on Cam 1, don't know how long he/she has been there
Still there !
I see the partner just below as well, we have both home!
Good to see their visits becoming more frequent & lucky enough to get some footage of the pair, see Mum fly off at 11.56 ...
https://youtu.be/NSxoZmCtrLs
Well snapped Wendy all looking good
Someone's home early
One arrived a short while ago
Lot of interest to something lower down - Cam 2
Yes!! Day saved as I missed the morning visit...
Just left
They're both at home ATM 😊
Been watching them since half past eight! Only had an opportunity to comment now.
Oh, the one from cam 1 just took off. (Please come back)
With these two landing on the tower often I wonder when they'll get time and of course the money to fix the hole you can see on Cam 1, it worries me.
Please help them and donate everyone.
Busy preening !
The partner showed up again ~
Aaand gone again.
One still at home
I was wondering about it. Hopefully they have a plan in place.
Female turned up for a short while then left, male still there
Just logged on, theres one on Cam 2, wonder how long they've been there.
Same here just logged on and it's still there
She was already home around 07:59 (I wasn’t awake enough to comment, this is according to my partner)
She's still there having a good preen
Having a little nap
Ah! Flew off when I wasn’t looking (also what an inconvenient place for a raindrop… ).
My WIFI dropped out again so I missed it leaving too. Agree about the raindrop.
One is back - Cam 2
Just left (to have some dinner, maybe?).
It's a little dark... but there's one at home on camera 2
They're both home atm
Hi Jules, yes one each end Ha!Now 8.45)
and female scraping (photo on flickr)
Someone’s back (cam 1)
Both there now
Look at them, watching the sunset ~ (not really, I have no clue)
Just one now
and then it just left
Did get a bit of the bonding but unfortunately the sound let me down ...
https://youtu.be/qGwemxumfLs
Thanks Wendy and in again rhis morning and there now but no bonding just chieping
Just flew off
Just arrived on Cam 2
And still there
It just flew off…
I was spoiled by their constant visits, now feels like forever last I saw them.
Yes ....where are they hiding ?
Bird alert (Cam 2), lot of noise and some feathers, other cam shook so might be both there
I missed this bit but one is still perched (yay!).
He just left.
Don't know how long its been there but theres one on Cam 2
Having a little snooze ..
They're both home!!
One just went (Cam 1)
Both gone now, I wasn't looking at the time but the last one must have gone a while ago!
Same here, had a very chaotic day so I missed them leaving. 🥲
Pleased to have recorded some footage of our lovely female, shame I missed the later visit of both ... https://youtu.be/PhmefJ2fPcA
What is that shape on camera 1?
Probably raindrops.
Looking at it today its hard to believe it was so bad yesterday, so much rain! The hole in the floor of Cam 1 is getting bigger now, think the floor is getting lower too looking at the front edge :(
At least it looks like all the rain cleaned the dirty smudge off of Cam 1, lets hope that blob of water goes next :)
Please don't forget to make a donation to them - https://derbyperegrines.blogspot.com/p/donate.html
Disaster, just looked, look at the bottom on Cam 1, its broken and getting worse as I look, its so sad :(
Same here. I’m stupefied at the rate it’s falling apart. WT will surely act on it sooner rather than later, right?
I hope they will too. Don't forget they need donations everyone, especially now - https://derbyperegrines.blogspot.com/p/donate.html
Have just donated. Can't afford much but will give more when I can. It's so sad seeing it the way it is 😢
So have I, lets hope others have too and they can fix it soon
Dreadful but am sure Nick and Team will be aware ..Also just donated
Hi All: the project team is aware or the problem and we will update the blog as soon as we can.
The birds themselves won't come to any harm of course which is the main thing. Getting a replacement platform will take some time both to make and install.
Meanwhile many thanks to those of you who have donated.
Any idea of the cost involved in making a new box the same?
One just left after having been perched cam 2 side for a while.
And one back perched enjoying the sunshine camera 2
I managed to see them in the last ten minutes before leaving to hunt, I presume.
We have an adult home!
Male comes in at 13.06 & cautiously enters the broken tray, later the female flies in but leaves immediately ...
https://youtu.be/o5g4_36KQlI
He just did some scraping on the right side and I held my breath, haha.
Certainly a bit nerve-racking waiting to see if the tray holds their weight & movement!!
Looks like he’s gone hunting for a meal.
Went off after seeing another Peregrine flying by, shows top left of cam #1 in slo-mo ... trying the two screens at once so as not to miss stuff, looks to be enough detail full screen, what do you think?
https://youtu.be/inPi4v4bPmo
Looked like the partner flew after him?
Plans are now in place to abseil down and remove the heavy gravel etc so the base of the platform does not sag any further. If necessary a support will be added to hold the base in place.
Discussions about a new platform have begun.
We don't think the birds will be affected or are likely to desert the nest.
We'll update everyone when we have further details and clarification.
Thanks for yiour patience.
The Project Team
Thanks for the information
Good to hear! Also we have one home right now (well, since a few minutes ago).
Just flew off…
And it’s back? lol or is it the partner?
Flew off as well. 🥲
Many thanks for this info, good luck to abseiler on this very cold day, see cams are off just now
^^^Should be top right of cam #1
No ideal when it arrived but theres one there now
and then it went
What did I miss, all the top of the platform is bare, did it all fall off or was it all removed?
I missed it aswell
There's a new blog post about the work on the platform carried out today (21st) so please don't add further comments here but instead make them to the new post if you will. Thanks.
