The peregrines are still using the platform to the delight of at least a few dedicated web cam watchers!
Some years the juveniles hang about for a few weeks after fledging but in others they move away and start to live on their own or, at least, move away from the cathedral itself.
This time it seems they are hanging about......for now anyway.

Good to have a new page for our intermittent sightings
Haven’t seen them at all yesterday…
Nowhere to be seen
So far only heard some noise from cam 1, maybe there was one perched on it?
Yes, me too. The platform has been very quiet for several days; however, I keep hearing occasional busts of loud shouting, so one of the juveniles is still regularly coming within the vicinity of the Cathedral.
Hopefully they’ll show themselves tomorrow (please let it be soon).
Pigeon currently in Male's corner after walking to & from along crennelations
Has flown
I wanna guess the pigeon couple are back with the original plan of nesting there.
Yes, there were two Woodpigeons on the crennelations earlier. That's as good as it gets the last few days! Has anyone heard a Peregrine in the vicinity over the last couple of days? I haven't.
It’s been very hot, we thought maybe one of the adults would cool down on the nest but alas…
Also no calls or shouts here either.
I miss them so!
I think judging by the shadow there's one atop cam 1 again.
Is that a hole in the roof on camera 2?
I can't see anything that looks out of the ordinary.
Oh, do you mean on the lower level? Yes, I haven't noticed that dark patch before? I'm not sure what that is. A hole seems unlikey.
I think it's an air vent and it's shadow
Only the pigeon today so far...
Yes, it was the shadow on the air vent. That became apparent later after the full brightness of the sun had gone. Curiously, I don't ever remember noticing that dark hole-shaped-shadow before. My brain must be focussed anything shaped like a Peregrine!
That seems to be the best we can hope for these days! Mind you, I'm starting to get excited by spotting a Woodpigeon!
Thursday, 9:50 am - I just heard a noisy Peregrine! Yay!
Ha, trust me to think the worse...
Thursday, 4:15 pm - I just heard a noisy Peregrine again. That's twice today, but it didn't visit the platform.
Thursday, 5:40 pm - I heard a noisy Peregrine from my bathroom window! It was shouting from the direction of tower of the nearby St. Luke's Church (opposite Stockbrook Park), Derby. I bet it's the same juvenline that I heard over my headphones this morning around the Cathedral, then again later in the afternoon. The two locations must be a minute apart as far as the Peregrines are concerned.
Good to know they're still around! I'm still hopeful of an appearance on camera.
Looks like someone sitting on the camera by the shadow
Pigeon back in Dad's corner
Heard the juvenile just now (12:42). If only they'd show themselves on the baby monitor, lol.
Yes, me too! I was just about to post the same message!
Just heard them again (19:53 ~ 54)!
Still at it lol
I can’t hear them anymore
Welcome to the Derby Cathedral Summer Woodpigeon Observation Project.
Basically, haha.
I couldn't help but think of Somerset Barn Owl's livestream as it's now a stock dove nest cam.
Monday, 18th August - 08:31 am - A noisy juvenile Peregrine calling nearby.
10:34 am - Juvenile Peregrine shouting nearby again.
They're nearby but too busy for a visit...
Wednesday, 20th August - 11:20 am - A noisy juvenile Peregrine shouting nearby.
Wednesday, 20th August - 3:25 pm-3:40 pm - I went to the Cathedral and one Peregrine - presumably a juvenile - flew from the back of the tower and circled high over the nesting platform, probably too high to have benn pick up by either of the cameras. A little later, I found the same Peregrine perched high on the opposite side of the tower to the platform. What with the occasional shouting and today's sightings, it shows that one juvenile Peregrine remains in the vicinity of the Cathedral.
This is great, I miss them so I welcome any crumb of their whereabouts.
AAAA 10:25 one of the adults is here.
Yes! I think it's the male. I heard one of the juveniles shouting nearby too, perhaps in response to the appearance of an adult back in the vicinity.
Ah it just left
Does anyone know if the platform is going to get a new base before next year's nesting starts?
Looks like someone's come back home having a look at the view nice surprise to see one come back
And gone!
I missed it, no! Was it an adult?
Looked like the male
Hastily snatched footage ... just logged on to see pigeon changeover showing two eggs ... https://youtu.be/suINNImKnq0?si=pwjMD3EPc4_RNyKi
Well spotted! Those eggs were very obvious in your video. I seemed to keep seeing the Woodpigeons mating - which just seemed odd given that it was mid-August - but it all makes sense now!
I think they mate pretty much year round, I live in a chalk quarry surrounded by trees and watch their antics every day, a pair fly to my roof around 5 pm and wake to their calls each morning which go on throughout the day!
Was wrong about mating year round, just seems like it, Lol but Woodies do have a long breeding season from April to October!
Just landed on the top of the camera again
Still there, can hear it moving every now and then
Sunday, 31 August - 09:57 am - As yesterday, I can hear that something has just landed on the fitting to Camera 1. Loud scratching noises as it moves about.
At the moment you can see the shadow when the sunshines as well, wonder which one it is
The shadowed confirmed that it was a Peregrine, rather than another species. It was there for at least 90 minutes.
Based on the sounds, it was still there are 1:05 pm.
I also heard the scratching sounds on the cam but couldn't get a recording
Someone at home looking at the world go by ....can't tell which one
Did you get a screenshot?
Camera 2 Adult having a good preen
Typical, went to the toilet and when I came back it had gone!
No! day ruined as I missed it...
Me too! :(
Sitting on the camera again
There is definitely one atop cam 1. Could hear shifting and the occasional shadow of themselves (just come down, I beg).
Yes! A brief view of the shadow - particularly one raised foot - confirmed that it is a Peregrine. :o)
Based on the noises, a Peregrine remains - or has returned to - perch on top of Cam 1.
Wednesday, 7:50 am - An adult Peregrine (the female I think) is sat on the edge of the platform and visible from Cam 1. Yay! :o)
Looks like she's still there 8.43 am
Both cams are down for me
Cameras are back but the peregrine has gone :(
Think theres one sitting on top of camera one again
An adult Peregrine is currently visible from Cam 1 sitting on the edge
Just flew off
Friday, 9:53 am - An adult Peregrine has just returned to the platform. :0)
That was a lot of squawking before it flew off
10:01 am - Just flown off again. Some rather curious behaviour going on: On two occasions she (I think) shimmied her belly on the gravel as if trying to create a scrape. Before 'she' flew, she was calling from the platform. Perhaps she knows that there is another Peregrine in the area around the Cathedral.
Adult preening on Cam 1
Moved to Cam 2 so better view now
Nice to see one back home having a look about
AAAH! There were two adults!! One of them was in the corner kinda hunched and the other perched on the ledge uh… monologuing. Second time I see this, was fun to watch (must check my screenshots to get a date of my first sight).
Opened the video around 7:30 and when the bell rang 7:45 ish, the one doing the speech flew away. About two minutes later the other peregrine also took off…
Just checked : It was on 04 of August after 4 pm
Adult on cam 1
Yes!! And looks like the one "being lectured" earlier too.
Was it yawning? I'm not very knowledgeable about ther behaviour
their^
Partial view of adult on ledge of shingle scrape just now ... https://youtu.be/0nHGjGTFnzs?si=WG6kt3vbxCQrUUf5
Aw, it's gone
Someone's home. Why aren't the pigeons attacked?
Woot, so they are!
Don’t they only hunt in flight? That’d be my guess why.
Can just see the feet of someone enjoying the view on this sunny morning
I do wonder what the calls are for... wish I could speak bird, lol.
Thursday, 10:50 am - Some really good views at the moment. I think it's the adult male, rather than the female, with a more lightly spotted upper breast.
The other adult showed up and now both flew off.
Been on there a long time but just flew off
That the adult male was being quite vocal this morning perhaps suggests that he was aware that the adult female was also in the vicinity of the Cathedral.
Someone is back! Is it the male?
Thank you for responding 🙂
They left again.
Someone's at home early having a good preen
Still there ...still preening
Just left!
Finally left at 11.15am
Welp, never mind lol. They're back and chatty
I spoke too soon, 2 back (briefly) a lot of noise and one fly's off again
Just missed that bonding, female still there ...
https://youtu.be/YbxULX-1y3k?si=iJYzS3IaPFgOS-9x
She just flew off
Here are closer views of our female poking around the scrape then flying off at 11.49 ... https://youtu.be/_ae4-E6isCM
Someone at home sun on it's back
Still there ...looking about
What's it watching down on the grass area ??
Didn't see this earlier but there are people about now and stalls looks like there's an event on
This from AI info ...Today, September 13, 2025, the Baton of Hope event is taking place at Derby's Cathedral Green. This event, which runs from 12 PM to 7:30 PM, features live music, food, stalls, crafts, and activities aimed at promoting conversations around suicide prevention and mental health awareness, with the goal of spreading a message of hope.
One of them is currently visible on cam2
One right next to the pigeons in the corner
Went to the kitchen so not 100% sure but its now (think its the adult male) on Cam 2 was join very briefly by another, a lot of noise with their heads down and then the other one left. Theres a lot of noise coming from one probably on top of the camera
For a few seconds both were there! Managed to snag a screen capture.
It flew off…
Ones back again on Cam 1
Yep ...still there
Monday 15th Sept. - 6:08 pm - One adult is standing on the edge of the platform. They seem to have developed the knack of standing in the very spot where they are hardly visible from either camera!
Given the scratching noises and the occasional vocalisations, it sounds like the other adult might be on the top of camera 1.
8:00 pm - Given that it's almost dark, it looks like this adult (the male I think) is going to spend the night roosting on the platform.
I was thinking (and hoping) the same! Very happy they might be staying the night.
Camera 2. Perched on edge looking around.
Still there preening
Was still there 7.30 ISH
Just tuned in and ones flown off !
There is one at home now can see feet and back only atm
One at home warming its back
Just moved across to camera 2 preening
Sweet, still there so I didn’t miss it!
