The peregrines are still using the platform to the delight of at least a few dedicated web cam watchers!
Some years the juveniles hang about for a few weeks after fledging but in others they move away and start to live on their own or, at least, move away from the cathedral itself.
This time it seems they are hanging about......for now anyway.

Good to have a new page for our intermittent sightings
Haven’t seen them at all yesterday…
Nowhere to be seen
So far only heard some noise from cam 1, maybe there was one perched on it?
Yes, me too. The platform has been very quiet for several days; however, I keep hearing occasional busts of loud shouting, so one of the juveniles is still regularly coming within the vicinity of the Cathedral.
Hopefully they’ll show themselves tomorrow (please let it be soon).
Pigeon currently in Male's corner after walking to & from along crennelations
Has flown
I wanna guess the pigeon couple are back with the original plan of nesting there.
Yes, there were two Woodpigeons on the crennelations earlier. That's as good as it gets the last few days! Has anyone heard a Peregrine in the vicinity over the last couple of days? I haven't.
It’s been very hot, we thought maybe one of the adults would cool down on the nest but alas…
Also no calls or shouts here either.
I miss them so!
I think judging by the shadow there's one atop cam 1 again.
Is that a hole in the roof on camera 2?
I can't see anything that looks out of the ordinary.
Oh, do you mean on the lower level? Yes, I haven't noticed that dark patch before? I'm not sure what that is. A hole seems unlikey.
I think it's an air vent and it's shadow
Only the pigeon today so far...
Yes, it was the shadow on the air vent. That became apparent later after the full brightness of the sun had gone. Curiously, I don't ever remember noticing that dark hole-shaped-shadow before. My brain must be focussed anything shaped like a Peregrine!
That seems to be the best we can hope for these days! Mind you, I'm starting to get excited by spotting a Woodpigeon!
Thursday, 9:50 am - I just heard a noisy Peregrine! Yay!
Ha, trust me to think the worse...
Thursday, 4:15 pm - I just heard a noisy Peregrine again. That's twice today, but it didn't visit the platform.
Thursday, 5:40 pm - I heard a noisy Peregrine from my bathroom window! It was shouting from the direction of tower of the nearby St. Luke's Church (opposite Stockbrook Park), Derby. I bet it's the same juvenline that I heard over my headphones this morning around the Cathedral, then again later in the afternoon. The two locations must be a minute apart as far as the Peregrines are concerned.
Good to know they're still around! I'm still hopeful of an appearance on camera.
Looks like someone sitting on the camera by the shadow
Pigeon back in Dad's corner
Heard the juvenile just now (12:42). If only they'd show themselves on the baby monitor, lol.
Yes, me too! I was just about to post the same message!
Just heard them again (19:53 ~ 54)!
Still at it lol
I can’t hear them anymore
Welcome to the Derby Cathedral Summer Woodpigeon Observation Project.
Basically, haha.
I couldn't help but think of Somerset Barn Owl's livestream as it's now a stock dove nest cam.
Monday, 18th August - 08:31 am - A noisy juvenile Peregrine calling nearby.
10:34 am - Juvenile Peregrine shouting nearby again.
They're nearby but too busy for a visit...
Wednesday, 20th August - 11:20 am - A noisy juvenile Peregrine shouting nearby.
Wednesday, 20th August - 3:25 pm-3:40 pm - I went to the Cathedral and one Peregrine - presumably a juvenile - flew from the back of the tower and circled high over the nesting platform, probably too high to have benn pick up by either of the cameras. A little later, I found the same Peregrine perched high on the opposite side of the tower to the platform. What with the occasional shouting and today's sightings, it shows that one juvenile Peregrine remains in the vicinity of the Cathedral.
This is great, I miss them so I welcome any crumb of their whereabouts.
AAAA 10:25 one of the adults is here.
Yes! I think it's the male. I heard one of the juveniles shouting nearby too, perhaps in response to the appearance of an adult back in the vicinity.
Ah it just left
Does anyone know if the platform is going to get a new base before next year's nesting starts?
Looks like someone's come back home having a look at the view nice surprise to see one come back
And gone!
I missed it, no! Was it an adult?
Looked like the male
Hastily snatched footage ... just logged on to see pigeon changeover showing two eggs ... https://youtu.be/suINNImKnq0?si=pwjMD3EPc4_RNyKi
Well spotted! Those eggs were very obvious in your video. I seemed to keep seeing the Woodpigeons mating - which just seemed odd given that it was mid-August - but it all makes sense now!
I think they mate pretty much year round, I live in a chalk quarry surrounded by trees and watch their antics every day, a pair fly to my roof around 5 pm and wake to their calls each morning which go on throughout the day!
Was wrong about mating year round, just seems like it, Lol but Woodies do have a long breeding season from April to October!
Just landed on the top of the camera again
Still there, can hear it moving every now and then
