Chick Ringing

The ringing of our checks may be happening tonight, subject to fair weather.
The webcams will be off during this time, so the images may appear frozen from around 7pm local time.

As usual the police have been given prior notice, and our two ringers are both licenced and very experienced. And with 18 Wildlife Liaison Officers specifically charged with investigating wildlife-related crimes in Derbyshire, the last thing we want is to have someone report illegal activity around the nest site from halfway around the world.

The process is very quick and although the parents fly around the skies above calling continuously, they soon return - often within the hour.

Well, the cameras are stuck on 19.04, so I guess ringing is going on at the moment. Hope it goes well..

Just for info..the Indystar (Indianapolis) babes were banded on 19th and one of the females was named 'IndyFroona' in memory of the delightful lady.
(apologies if this info has been posted before)

the ringing was a sucsess as far as i am aware. i was down the green watching. from what i can gather there is two males and two females, i am sure that the team will correct me if i am wrong. the male did disapear but the female was very vocal, and was flying around for the fajority of the time. good views given, well done team.

Fantastic news about the ringing, i'm so glad that it went well and mum is back with the little ones. You see, a lot happens when you nip out to Tesco!

Just to report that the ringing went well and to confirm that it is believed that we have two males and two females. At least the rain held off. More reports and photos will be made available in due course. Mum was back on the tray within half and hour of us leaving the tower. Thanks go to the ringers for their successful work this evening.

Back from law school, just about to start the cake making and whoa! the ringers have completed their task. Well done all, rather you than me (it must be one of the more "extreme ringing" scenarios - what with the abseiling etc) If it's not too indelicate a question, how are peregrine chicks sexed? I thought it was hard to tell with birds without disecting. Or maybe you just have to go on size?
I was green with envy to hear you have so many Wildlife Officers in the Derbyshire police - that's about 18 more than the Thames Valley force has.
Thanks to all on the previous blog for directions to Jury's - I didn't think of actually looking at the map.
... and I STILL can't see the spider (maybe the ringers really did take a duster with them)
Our chicks are currently huddled in the right hand corner. Mum's keeping watch perched on the lip of the tray - has she given up trying to brood them?
Right, now to make that cake.

well it's a lovely sunny morning in Derby, I can't be sure but it looks like dad is keeping a watchful eye over the 'little big' ones this morning. It all looks very peacuful in the East wing, lovely to see them all snoozing and relaxed after the evenings events!
