It's (almost) all over bar the shouting!

Update 17th June:
The two youngsters continue to visit the nest platform though with less frequency as time goes on.
How much longer will they hang about in view of the web cams?

It was good to see a still from our cathedral web cam featuring prominently on the Wildlife Trusts national news story about the various web cams run by local trusts all over the UK:

The rain held off for today's final Watch Point (on 7th June).

One of our excellent team of volunteers, Joyce Sawford, wrote this report with some great photos by Luke Wibberley to whom thanks:

"We had a great Watchpoint today - over 200 visitors of all ages came to look through our telescopes and binoculars.
All four peregrines were visible for most of the time. The young male gave us some spectacular displays of how good he is at flying now! At one point he came back in to land on top of the right hand camera, knocking the adult male off in the process, who then flew back to his favoured perch above the ‘shield’ on the right above the nest ledge.

The young female never moved far from her comfortable spot on the crenellations below the nest ledge , and the adult female brought her down some food from the nest ledge just as we were packing away. At times the young female sat up with her back to us, so we could point out the row of pale feathers at the base of her tail, but she spent a lot it time lying flat out and resting.

The adult female spent a lot of time keeping watch by the rain gulley on the left above the nest on a level with the grotesques, and she retrieved some prey from the right hand rain gulley, taking it back to the nest ledge for the young male and herself to share.

Please, if you can, do send a donation to keep the webcams rolling, and we’ll look forward to seeing you all again at next year’s Watchpoints".

Hopefully there'll still be something to see on the web cams with the young male showing up from time to time.

Thanks to everyone who has engaged with our project in its 20th season. Please do support us by making a donation to keep us running for next year and beyond.

This morning has given me many screenshots of them (managed to check on both parents and one of the youngsters)! A happy sunday

Sunday 10:10 am - It's the juvenile female that's laying down on the nesting platform at the moment.

Nice surprise one perched on the scrape

And another flying round screeching.

04:48 this morning was an adult, so am assuming female with the nest scratching. Thought was female juvenile, but legs were bright orange. Have just seen young still with grey legs...

Looks like it's having forty winks !

11:15 am - It's the juvenile female that's currently on the platform, not the male.

A bit of stretching then back to watching 😊

Sunday - After being on the platform for many hours this morning - dozing, preening, and shouting - the juvenile female left again about 12:30 pm.

Graham Rowe said...

And back again just after 1:00 pm - looking very damp, especially her belly feathers.

Graham Rowe said...

Sunday, 3:15 pm - I can hear one of the juveniles shouting from nearby, but neither youngster has been on the nesting platform for nearly a couple of hours; since about 1:30 pm.

Sunday, 5:20-5:30 pm - Plenty of shouting going on from nearby, but neither youngster visible on, or from, the nesting platform.

7.15 back having a preen

Yes and no! That's an adult dropped by, the male I think, not a juvenile. I've only just checked in again myself, so I don't know how long it's (he's) been there.

Wendy Bartter said...

This is the adult female, can tell by the brownish hue to her wing feathers, male is evenly grey & smaller ...

Does anyone else think it's time we had a new page as getting quite fiddly to negotiate to the end of this one?

Adult on the platform now

Young lady has been asleep for a while now, spread out, as usual.

Graham Rowe said...

Yes, I've been thinking the same. Apparently, we are making a lot more comments this year compared 'to normal'; however, the young Peregrines are behaving differently too, by still regularly returning to the platform after they fledged.

Looks quite relaxed

Monday. The juvenile female stayed around the nesting platform all morning but seems to have flown off (for the moment) just after midday.

Monday midnight - The adult female has been on the nesting platform for several hours and she's now spending the night.

Graham Rowe said...

Tuesday, 9:30 am - The juvenile female is currently on the platform, checking out the view.

Wendy Bartter said...

She is now laying down asleep with her head in the corner of slate scrape!

Anonymous said...

Single bird perching on edge of slate side now. No idea which it is.

Graham Rowe said...

Tuesday, 3:20 pm - The juvenile female is still on the platform! I've been dipping in to check the cameras all day - since 9:30 am - and she's been there all the time, sometimes watching, sometimes sleeping. I don't know whether she's be fed during that time.

Graham Rowe said...

Famous last words! She's just this minute flown off.

Anonymous said...

Hopefully to grab a snack

Graham Rowe said...

Tuesday, 4:00 pm - The juvenile female is back on the platform. I don't know how long she was away, but it certainly wasn't long. Less that 30 minutes.

Sitting enjoying the sunshine

Having a little nap ...flat out !

Anonymous said...

She left, then adult turned up, settled down for 5 mins then lots of screeching when youngster (assume the female) came back, adult left quickly

Graham Rowe said...

Tuesday - The juvenile female has been on the platform most of the day. She's way at the moment, but she may still return to spend the night on the platform (as yesterday).
