61 hours between 2nd and 3rd egg, on that timeline it could be around 8a.m. on Tuesday for the 4th one🤔🤯

There was an extremely long standoff this afternoon when the male would not relinquish eggs to his partner forcing her to 'insist', he does love to incubate ... he had already been on the eggs for a long time before this footage starts ...

Awww he's so sweet...He'd rather fall over so he doesn't step on the eggs bless him :)
ReplyDeletewe hav seen the feemale incubaeting the eggs. wat temperature do the eggs need to bee?
ReplyDeleteHi Tiggywinkle class: a very good question and one I don't know the answer to. I'll have to look it up and reply later!
ReplyDelete37.3-37.7°C
ReplyDeleteHello Tiggywinkleclass as you know the eggs have to be warmed by incubating. The Peregrine adult body temperature is 37c to 39c so is ideal to sit and transfer her body heat to the eggs, which should reach 37c to hatch. Her fluffy feathers underneath enable her to shuffle over the eggs separating the feathers so that the eggs touch her skin, for that warmth to transfer, to the eggs, whilst they will also cocoon the eggs.
ReplyDeleteThink, of this ,, a bit like us in bed snuggling under a soft duvet....Hope that helps.
Great description Kate
DeleteTalking of incubation ... here is the male taking over to give female a much needed break ...
