Thanks to the regular videos that Wendy Barrter puts on You Tube we know that the adult pair are returning to the nest platform (aka 'scrape') from time to time.
They will continue to do this throughout the winter to ensure no intruding peregrines think the nest is unoccupied.
Here's one of Wendy's recent videos but there are more if you scroll down to the comments to the previous blog post. This one shows the female preening on the platform.
This project is managed by Derbyshire Wildlife Trust, with The Cathedral, Cathedral Quarter and Derby City Council (especially its IT team) as partners.
Adult, I believe female, was already on scrape when I logged on this morning, it was a very long visit, here is some of it ...

Hi there, a few months ago, two peregrines tried to nab a pigeon in my garden, a few feet away from me. Last week, there was the remains of a pigeon in my garden (just the feet left!) Today, magpies have been going crazy, so I went to the window and a peregrine has caught a pigeon! He/she saw me and flew with it only a few feet (I think it could be the juvenile, as it was small) I have tried to take a video of it eating the pigeon behind a tree in my garden. It's amazing!
ReplyDeleteWould be very interesting to see your video Anonymous! If you upload it to Youtube you can get the URL to post on here!

On cam2 and against the far side of the scrape, it looks like there is an egg.
ReplyDeleteIs it an egg, and if so can anybody identify - or speculate - on the species of bird that laid it? Or has somebody in the local table tennis club been a tad overenthusiastic?
Hi DW, yes that is an egg and is a Peregrine's egg from the season just gone which failed to hatch! It will be collected from the scrape before the beginning of next season when both scrapes are cleaned & refreshed with gravel & slate!
ReplyDeleteWendy, thanks for the info. I thought it looked to small to be a peregrine egg, but it is difficult to judge size and perspective on the nest cams.
ReplyDeleteKnow what you mean DW, shame it's just out of shot on cam #1!
ReplyDeleteAdult, female I think, on scrape now, can see her head as nearer to cam, been there about an hour already!
