Feeding Time

Our chicks are growing up fast. This video clip was captured on Monday May 11th.

Just to remind you, our chicks hatched between 29th April and 2nd May 2009, and should be ready to fly sometime around 6th June. It's unlikely that they will all survive to become adults, but this is nature at work. The first year of a peregrine's life is fraught with danger as it learns to master the skies. For now we can enjoy watching their development and marvel at how fast they grow.

We'll be posting a Calendar of all our organised Watchpoints later tonight so some of you can book a time to come into Derby city centre to see the birds for yourselves.

Here are some more screenshots captured by watchers to our webcams today;

    Exciting tern up for the books!
    The bird in question was - yes, a TERN (and goodness me - can it REALLY be nearly 2 years ago?? )
    I know our team will be just as diligent in finding every scrap of scientific evidence this time as they have every other year.

    It's good to see Mum peacefully asleep tonight, with the chicks all tucked in safely & quietly. Hope someone can get a photo of this.

    As you were. She only did that to play me up. All quiet again.

    Can anyone tell if it is mum and not dad sleeping in the scrape?

    Perfect, Phoebe, thanks! I loved your shots of the 6.30pm. & 7.30 (?) feeds this evening too. I must learn how to do this sometime but I'm such a novice that I don't even know how to save a page!

    Well mum has been sleeping now for over an hour only briefly lifting her head. A well earned rest I would say.

    Aha! I've found the comments page I was looking for, after posting in the main blog.

    A nice quiet night for the Peregrines so I'm off to sleep too.

    @Kishore: many thanks for that lovely shot on Flickr. Sorry for the delay in replying - I went to bed! The picture reminds me of the line in that carol - "All is calm, all is bright".

    A snack of leftovers from the larder. Looks like Tiddler is 2nd. in from the left, but he'll probably move to a better position. All beaks wide open.

    Tiddler didn't need to move, I saw him get at least 3 huge beakfuls. The parent is so careful to make sure they all get fair shares, it's amazing. Tiddler has gone to sleep.

    The chicks stayed close together during breakfast, it's very windy and quite cold today with rain showers here in Ashbourne not far from Derby so the same weather. Mum should keep them dry if it rains hard.
