Come on you lot out there, make a donation for these fantastic birds, even if you can only afford a pound, think what a difference it would make and it must be worth a pound to watch these fantastic birds especially since its going to get very exciting. I've done a direct debit for £2.50 a month
ReplyDeleteI like to think the eggs have drawn down and the chick inside as pipped the shell and the hatching process is under way. The pip can almost be invisable to the eye. But enough for the process to begin

Strange you should mention Audubon Karen Anne....by a strange co-incidence, the founder himself (what a great willdife artist he was too!) had a wife who came from Crich - a village in mid-Derbyshire!

ReplyDeleteIt's because I've changed it for a little while.
I did try to post an explanation earlier today but somehow it appears not to have got through.
Basically, I thought a change would be nice, just as I try to zoom in and out from time to time to give a bit of variety to the images everyone sees. I'm also very keen to get a good screen capture of our peregrine on top of the tower witht the new hotel behind it. Plus the other nest cam has a stonking great spider in front of its lens which doesn't look too good in the dark uner IR light.
As soon as there's significant right-side activity I'll change it over.
PS Lots and lots of activity by "Mum" on the eggs tonight. I tried to lsiten in for any noises early this evening, but the bell ringers were busy practicing. I'll try again a bit later tonight once I've put the finishing touches to a new Flickr Group we're planning so that everyone can upload screen shots and other photos they've taken.
I hope this explasnatin makes some sense. In haste

The cathedral shop is stuffed to the gunnels with peregrine-related goods - there's a whole flock of soft-toy birds massed in the shop window ... and jolly nice it all is. I saw it for myself on Sunday - but sadly couldn't buy anything on that occasion as the shop was shut (also couldn't get a nice cup of tea and a bun from the equally tempting looking cafe) Oh dear, what a shame, I shall just have to visit again soon.
ReplyDeleteCan somebody remind me of the eth (estimated time of hatching) and also, did somebody report that the Chichester peregrines have had a hatching? Anybody know about Lincoln's? (which interestingly hatched on exactly the same day as Derby's last year)

@Wayne1984 I may be down tomorrow, but if the chicks hatch I shall undoubtedly be inside the cathedral poring over a hot DVD recorder. Or I might just be crashed out at lunchtime in our museum staffroom, having worked my socks off night and day on this project as, indeed, have others.
I'm always worried when we make changes to the way things appear as its never possible to please everyone all the time. But having feedback on what people want to see makes it a pleasure when we can deliver.
Less activity on the nest now - Mum seems to be quite passive, unlike earlier.

I think you are all correct - camera is frozen :-( Gosh this is exciting! However a week or so ago I did wonder what on earth I was doing staring at a bird sitting on eggs. Is this the ornithological equivalent of watching paint dry??!!

ReplyDeleteSOrry - just missed the changeover - hit the buttons a fraction late. Nice view of the eggs. They are both quite jumpy now - presumably the eggs are getting noisy :-)
ReplyDeleteI saw changeover ealier. It looks like the right egg could be pipped but Im not certain, there is some marks on it of some sort.
ReplyDeleteI was watching last night and it looked like mum kept checking the right egg.
Its beginning to get eggsiting again. I think the left most egg has a little crack in it. I just got a glimps of it when the eggs were exposed a little. Here the link to the image which I captured. (Hope it works)

ReplyDeleteI see what you mean about the egg if indeed the chick that has chipped the shell? it has expanded and got up into the air space (passed the pipping stage) and peparing to hatch.

ReplyDeleteThanks Karen Anne for mentioning Froona and saying you believe her birthday was 1st May. What a wonderful day to have been born on - MAYDAY! All rebirth and welcoming to the Spring. The most wonderful place to be on that very special day is PADSTOW (but I can't get there this year - shucks!) But I shall always be reminded to think of and remember Froona now on Mayday.
