Still incubating.....

(Sat 5th May: For some reason our main webcam on Page 1 is not displaying for users. However, it is functioning fine with both audio and video on iPhones. Please leave a comment and a note about your system detail if you are able to view Page 1 OK. Unfortunately we will not be able to resolve this until after the Bank Holiday. Meanwhile, please use one of our other cameras to watch our birds.)

A month seems a long long time to have to watch the peregrines incubate their eggs.
But imagine how it must be for the birds themselves - especially our female who does 90% of the egg sitting!
Anyway, we're now approaching chick hatching time which is always exciting.
While we wait, here's a screengrab captured by Beth Bearder yesterday (30th April) showing a change over and giving us a clear view of the four eggs.
Beth works close to the Cathedral and this is the second year she has watched the web cams - so thank you Beth and a belated welcome to the peregrine community!
We hope to see you at one of our watch Points which are due to start in late May (full details nearer the time)......

We are getting excited about the eggs hatching. Today we have seen the peregrine sitting on the eggs. We could see her breathing.
Thank you for posting the screenshot of the eggs, they are looking good!

Hello Oak Class
It's great that you are watching and waiting for the hatching of the eggs.
It is still a few days away I think....but getting closer!

Hi Julian: wow you are a lucky fellow to own that!
As you know, Charles Tunnicliffe was a great artist who spent many happy hours drawing and painting the peregrines that nested on the cliffs near South Stack on Anglesey.
Due to strict copyright we are not able to reproduce any of his work on this bolog unfortunately....

Thanks for the heads up Kate have logged in a few times but only seen MrsP on eggs. Just seen changeover thought he was going to step on one of the eggs for a moment but alls well. It's amazing how carefully they negotiate the changeovers with those big talons.

We saw the female go from the edge to the eggs. How many centimetes long are the eggs? we saw the female step carfuly through the eggs. Then she used her beak to tuck the eggs underneth her and to make sure they are all warm. mabey in 1 week they will hatch and we will see four chicks insted of four eggs. The first time we saw a pergrins it was sittting on the platfromee and it was looking for the male bird to come back with some food to eat.

Over the last couple of days we've had reports that our main webcam on Page 1 is not displaying for some users. However, it is functioning fine with both audio and video on iPhones. Our apologies for this. Please leave a comment and a note about your system detail if you are able to view Page 1 OK, or if you aren't able to view it. Unfortunately we will not be able to resolve this until after the Bank Holiday when our hosting company's IT support team are back at work. Meanwhile, please use one of our other cameras to watch our birds.)

The main webcam is working fine for me at the moment on Internet Explorer 11 but not on Chrome. It is also working on my iphone. It has been a bit intermittent over the past few days, sometimes working on Chrome but not always.

Camera 1 working well in both sound and vision on our Apple using Safari other cameras are fine. Wish the chicks would hurry up and make an appearance whilst this fine weather lasts.

PAGE 1 Cam No Show am using Firefox and win 10

BUT click the Play button( nothing happens)

Leave Tab open and OPEN another New Tab
select Page 2,press play...... and hey presto I hear sound! How?
go back to the other Tab and can see Page 1 with sound.
so can go from Page 1 to Page 2( obviously no sound with page 2, as it was coming from the other Page 1) and back again.

Hope it will work for you.

Webcam Page 1 now working fine on iPad whereas yesterday it was unavailable. However, do find second hand freezes occasionally on both Pages 1and 2.

Sheffield had 3 recently hatched chicks with 1 egg still in scrape when I last checked yesterday if anyone wants some little ones to look at until ours arrive. Have tried to access Nottingham's site but to no avail.

Cam 1 is working fine from the Derby Council link but have not been able to load it for days from the 2018 Peregrine sites - hope this helps, as cant wait to watch the next few weeks !

Hello Peregrine Class, you thought of another great question to ask! I think a peregrine's egg is about 5cm long and 4cm wide. Each egg might be slightly different in size and they often have one end that is more rounded than the other. I'm not sure how big the chicks are when they first hatch but it always makes me wonder how they ever managed to fit inside an egg!

3 Sheffield peregrine chicks just being fed. They seem to be getting a bit bigger so presume fourth egg isn't going to hatch.

Male arrived with prey visible below the platform. Female looked interested but just got up shook both her legs and sat down again. Hope this is an indication of the amount of food the birds have.
Sun is now off the platform and the female appears more comfortable.
All four eggs seen and currently intact.

Evening Vicky
Saw your post on bottom of previous thread.

Yes, she has been rocking those eggs most of afternoon, cant hear any chirrrups, so hope you may be lucky . On your shift CHOL:):)

kate said...

Still Rocking and rolling, she lifted and left for a few minutes all eggs still intact.

It would be good if today ,as hopefully all school children could witness.

But Birds will know when ready.

Vicky said...

Hi Kate, I will be close by for awhile now so should be around when the eggs start hatching. She was definitely chirruping during the night. Like a bird in labour but of course she is just waiting for the eggs to hatch. No labour until they hatch. Then the fun begins with all the work of providing for 4 hungry chicks.

Just saw one egg with a crack and bits of white. Today is the day I am sure.

Beth said...

All cameras working fine on my iPhone and on internet explorer. Mrs DP is definitely rocking this morning, looking at the eggs and making noises. I thought an egg had a crack in it too but wasn't sure if it was my eyes playing tricks on me. I really hope today is the day Vicky!

Vicky said...

She just got off the eggs and you can see a small hole in one egg. So get ready everyone for a birth today. I will be sleeping while you all enjoy a baby chick being born. Dad just came to take over.

Vicky said...

One egg definitely has 2 tiny holes and one egg looks a little banged up so maybe 2 hatches today. By the way, for about an hour & a half I have been using my iMac computer to watch the eggs and it has been fine. I use firefox. Now that I know for sure the eggs are cracked or have holes I can go to bed. Night all and keep me informed please.

An awful lot of squealing coming from under the falcon this morning. New post with picture just added.

I was lucky to see the male feeding the female (after he waited for the clock to finish striking 10.00) The two white fluffy blobs could just be seen peeking out. I almost felt like an intruder into their private lives.

Many thanks to the team for allowing us to view these marvellous moments.
