Much Flapping and Feeding

Here are some images captured this evening (Sunday) from our webcams. After the weekend's rain eventually eased off there seemed to be much more activity in the nest platform, and we're hoping that our new "grip strip" is letting the juvenile birds get a really good purchase on the side of the ledge in readiness for their first flights in the next few days. (The ring number seems to be 009 rather than 008).

Look at me........
Thanks to Sara6768 for capturing this last image and posting it on our Flickr group (see link on left margin of this page).

Every so often I marvel at the huge amount of work the Derby folks do on this project, so it's time for me again to say Thank You! to all of them.

Meanwhile, I know this is a Derby peregrine blog only, but in preparation for peregrine withdrawal once the chicks fledge and depart, I stumbled across the Manitoba live webcam where the chicks are still in the white fluff stage. They must have an extraordinary camera (give it a minute or two to load):

In September you can watch the falcons in Australia.
Even after our falcons fledge they will be around for a while, I chck in once in a while right through until next Spring :)

Looks like a fine dry morning in Derby - just right for wing excercises.

All the kids still home, I see.

It is a nice dry and sunny start to the day in Derby. I see the youngsters are preening themselves well, getting ready for the big day! Yesterdays rain will have cleaned their feathers and freshened them up. I expect they will be on the ledge more today looking out into that big wide world and strengthening their wings.

Lots of excersing activities in the nest today. Looks like they've been urged to take the first flight by the parents. I've got some pix which I'll put on flickr later.

This is nerve-wracking. I have had to stop watching for a while. Are the parents calling to them, encouraging them to fly?

About 10.30 this morning, I saw an adult take away a half-eaten carcass. Was this to eat themself, or do you think they could be encouraging them to jump?? The improved 2 screen images are great, but I cannot get the one on the stonework where the adults eat any more.
